A Look back at 2011

Well well well, how time has flown. It is that time of year again when people start looking back on the previous 12 months and The Latin Quarter were certainly very busy for the year.

Over the course of 2011, we had numerous events and festivals and 2012 looks like it will bigger and better. Here are some of our highlights from 2011... 

Coors Light Live – May Bank Holiday Weekend 2011 

The Latin Quarter played host to ‘Coors Light Live’ at the Latin Quarter over 3 days of awesome live performances from Friday 29th April to Sunday 1st of May. Jape, Cathy Davey, Donal Dineen, O’Death, Legends of Vegas, Converse Allstars plus many more took over Galway’s lively Latin Quarter with performances in 19 venues.

Music fans were also be treated to some live street action as Tucan, North Strand Contra Band and many many more. Entrance to gigs were free and were on a first come, first served basis. Coors Light Live will return to The Latin Quarter for the May Bank Holiday 2012.

Havana Cultura Festival – June Bank Holiday Weekend 2011

Havana Cultura returned to Galway’s Latin Quarter for the 2nd year over the June Bank Holiday weekend 2011. This year’s festival brought a more contemporary edge of Cuban fever to the streets of Galway. Over the weekend there were 60 free events across two stages and 17bars in Galway’s Latin Quarter, courtesy of Havana Club,the Authentic Cuban Rum. Making a return to the Havana Cultura stage this year were the legendary Cuban All Stars, the eclectic Sabor Cubano, and the Cuban Jazz Project. New to the scene were international performers La Tinto Bros, with Galway’s very own Disconauts performing across the weekend. Groovalizacion DJ’s brought their vibes, grooves and cultural fusion to the Latin Quarter, with a host of other bands and DJs from around the world, ensuring the pulse of Havana was felt throughout the city.

Guinness Live – September 22nd to 25th 2011

Guinness® Live, a Brand new Music Festival for Galway, took place from 22nd to 25th September. It featured an impressive line up of national and local acts, performing a series of intimate gigs in venues and pubs throughout The Latin Quarter. The weekend had 50 free gigs over the 4 nights and admission to all gigs was free. In addition to some of the finest original talent in Ireland, ranging from high profile acts to the most exciting new sounds around, it also featured many of Galway’s finest bands and musicians playing a wide range of popular, rock and traditional music. Acts included The Republic of Loose, The Riptide Movement, Duke Special, The Original Rudeboys, Noelie McDonnell, Tucan, Jerry Fish & The Mudbug Club, The Debutantes, Whipping Boy and many many more....

Galway Abooo Halloween Festival – October 29th – 30th 2011

Spooktacular and devilish, the Galway Abooo Halloween Festival 2011 was one helluva party! The Galway Abooo Halloween Festival returned to the streets of Galway’s Latin Quarter for it’s 3rd year. Hightlights of this year’s festival included the Galway Abooo Spooktacular Street Spectacle, a Kids ‘Trick or Treat’ trail, The Canonball Circus with The Fanzini Brothers, Kids' Fancy Dress Party and a Michael Jackson Thriller Dance re-enactment.
